Benešov Region


The second largest district in the Central Bohemia region, spread between the river Sázava and legendary Blaník mountain, with extensive forests, enigmatic fortress ruins and popular castles and châteaux.

Visit the fairytale castles of Konopiště and Jemniště, the majestic castle of Český Šternberk and the lesser-known château of Vrchotovy Janovice. If you feel like trying out a bit of aristocratic life for yourself, you can book a stay in one of the high-life hotels at Ratměřice, Čechtice or even at Jemniště itself.

Also worth seeing is the picturesque square and the ruins of the Minorite monastery in the city of Benešov. Vlašim will tempt you to take a stroll through the castle park, with its variety of gates, and an unexpected and distinctive Chinese pavilion. The Sázava monastery with its unfinished cathedral dominates the town of Sázava, which also has its František glassworks.

Benešov district has a dense network of cycle paths and nature trails. You can paddle down the Sázava river or rent a boat and explore the Slapy reservoir. Technology fans will no doubt be fascinated by the Military Technical Museum in Lešany, while nature lovers shuld not miss out on Bee World and the Water House in Hulice. The romantically inclined can admire the butterflies in the Votice Butterfly House.
